Iranian and Russian Officials Discuss Peaceful Caucasus Resolution

During a visit to Tehran on June 16, Igor Khovayev, the Special Representative of the Russian Foreign Minister for the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, discussed the latest developments in the Caucasus region with Acting Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani.
Emphasizing the alignment of the two countries' positions on significant regional and international issues, Bagheri Kani called the Caucasus region a zone of national interest and security for both nations, highlighting the necessity for regional cooperation.
"Acting Iranian Foreign Minister emphasized the principled position of the Islamic Republic on the peaceful settlement of regional issues and said that the importance and sensitivity of the current processes taking place in the Caucasus region, especially the intensification of foreign interference, requires strategic coordination and constant consultations between Iranian and Russian officials. In this regard, he emphasized the importance of maximizing the use of regional mechanisms such as the 3+3 platform to resolve regional issues, expand regional cooperation and rapprochement, and ensure the security, stability, and collective interests of the countries of the Caucasus region," the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated.
Igor Khovayev, in turn, emphasized Moscow's and Tehran's similar views on the problems of the South Caucasus and noted the need for close and constant interaction and coordination between the authorities of the two countries to combat the interference of extra-regional players in the affairs of the Transcaucasus.
