Italy and Azerbaijan Discuss Green Energy Cooperation in Milan Meeting

On July 2, Parviz Shahbazov, the Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan, met in Milan with Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, the Italian Minister of Environment and Energy Security.
During the meeting, they discussed a wide range of cooperation in the energy sector, Azerbaijan's upcoming chairmanship at the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), and Italy's role in the G7.
The discussion also covered cooperation with Ansaldo Energia regarding the provision of equipment for a 1280 MW power plant under construction in Azerbaijan and for substations in the Karabakh region. Prospects for renewable energy supplies were assessed, with Italy expressing interest in receiving "green energy" from Azerbaijan through the "Caspian-Black Sea-European Green Energy Corridor."
The meeting highlighted that Italy is Azerbaijan's main trading partner. Of the 37.9 billion cubic meters of gas supplied to Europe, over 30 billion cubic meters are transported to Italy. Azerbaijan is among the top three largest gas suppliers to the Italian market.
Notably, gas supplies to Italy are forecasted to reach 9.6 billion cubic meters this year. The planned expansion of the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) capacity by 1.2 billion cubic meters in 2026 is expected to further strengthen bilateral cooperation on energy security.
