Kadyrov Condemns US-Israel Attacks on Iran and Calls for Gulf-State Unity
On March 11, Ramzan Kadyrov, the Head of Chechnya, commented on the Israeli-US war against Iran. He stated that by launching what he described as a "treacherous attack" on Iran during the holy month of Ramadan, the US and Israel attempted to create divisions across the Islamic world. According to Kadyrov, the strike resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader and Spiritual Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, members of his family, 168 students at a secondary school in the city of Menab, and numerous civilians. He also claimed that the attack was intended to provoke Iran into retaliatory measures that could draw other countries into the conflict.
Kadyrov acknowledged that, from a military tactical perspective, retaliatory strikes against US bases could be viewed as an expected response to an adversary. At the same time, he emphasized that "it is necessary to clearly understand" that attacks on civilian infrastructure in third countries and the loss of civilian lives "cannot be justified in any way." "Such mistakes are unacceptable, but they did happen," he stated, adding that citizens of several Middle Eastern countries, including the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, were affected.
Expressing support for the position of what he described as his "dear elder brother," Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates, Kadyrov noted that the UAE leadership has never pursued military confrontation with neighboring states. He emphasized that the country is widely regarded as one of the safest and most stable in the world, but after strikes on civilian targets and casualties among civilians, it has been compelled to take measures to protect its citizens.
Kadyrov further stressed the importance of coordination among the countries of the Persian Gulf. He said that earlier in the year ambassadors from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, and several other states had approached him with a proposal to organize a large meeting. However, he noted that the ambassador of the United Arab Emirates was not included in the proposed format. According to Kadyrov, the meeting was postponed because he insisted that the format be expanded and that representatives of the UAE participate. "I consider this extremely important," he stated.
He added that the peoples of these countries are connected by numerous factors, including geographic proximity, religion, history, culture, and economic ties, emphasizing the need to preserve dialogue in order to counter external forces seeking to create divisions.
