Lukashenko Highlights Security Challenges and Critiques Armenian Stance in CSTO

At the session of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Collective Security Council on November 23, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko stated that problems should be solved at the negotiating table rather than making demarches without a reason.
According to him, at the summit, in a narrow format, the heads of state assessed how security is affected by the situation in the world. They also discussed the settlement of crisis situations in the regions adjacent to the zone of responsibility of the CSTO. "All members of the Collective Security Council noted that the current international situation is characterized by a high degree of confrontation and polarization, requires us further consolidation of efforts, strengthening of our organization as an important factor in ensuring security in the Eurasian region," he said.
At the same time, the Belarusian leader drew attention to the fact that in accordance with the organization's order, the CSTO's presidency will pass to Kazakhstan from January 1, 2024. "We also discussed the situation in the Caucasus and the dissatisfaction of one of the members of the Collective Security Council. We came to a common conclusion that there have always been and will be problematic issues, if we intend to solve them, they should be solved at the negotiating table, and not to make demarches without a reason," Lukashenko emphasized and expressed hope that it would be possible to see Armenian friends at the CIS and EAEU events in St. Petersburg.
