Mufti of Dagestan Urges Men to Avoid Beauty Salons and Certain Medical Professions

On April 16, Akhmed Abdulaev, the Mufti of Dagestan, urged men to refrain from visiting beauty salons and to abandon professions such as gynecology and mammology, prompting significant backlash on social media.
During his sermon on April 16, Abdulaev called on men to avoid activities related to personal grooming and certain medical professions involving women’s health. He stated, "Why does a man need beauty? It’s unnecessary, in my view. It’s unethical," emphasizing that beauty salons should be exclusively for women. He also expressed discomfort with men working as mammologists or gynecologists, urging them to "find another job or retire" and insisting, "It’s time to move away from this!"
His remarks sparked widespread criticism online. Many users defended male professionals in these fields, with comments such as, "The best gynecologists and mammologists are often men!" Social media responses largely reflected disagreement with the Mufti’s sermon.
