Officials from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Turkmenistan, and Iran Engage in High-Level Talks
Between August 3 and 4, leaders from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Turkmenistan, and Iran gathered in Turkmenistan for the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), where they engaged in a series of high-level meetings focused on regional cooperation, interparliamentary relations, and economic development.
On August 3, Sahiba Gafarova, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, arrived for the conference's Parliamentary Forum, which she was scheduled to chair the following day. During her visit, she met with Dunyagozel Gulmanova, the Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan. Gafarova highlighted the importance of strengthening interparliamentary ties, referencing the recent visit of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, to Azerbaijan and the agreements signed during his meeting with President Ilham Aliyev. Both speakers emphasized the value of their shared history and culture.
Also on a working visit, Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Ali Asadov met with his Georgian counterpart, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze. The two leaders expressed satisfaction with the strategic partnership between their nations and discussed expanding cooperation in trade, energy, and transport. Separately, within the framework of the conference, Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan met with Iranian Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref. They discussed regional developments and cooperation in economy, infrastructure, and technology, with Khachaturyan specifically acknowledging the role of an Iranian company in constructing a section of the North-South transport corridor.
