Pashinyan Showcases Progress and Vision at Major Press Conference
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held a comprehensive press conference at the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex, where he outlined his government’s strategic priorities, reflected on Armenia’s progress since the 2018 Velvet Revolution, and answered questions from around 30 media representatives.
In his opening remarks, Pashinyan framed his government’s core mission as ensuring the sustainability of Armenian statehood and creating the necessary conditions for its permanence. “Despite challenges, the Republic of Armenia has demonstrated reliable resilience and is on a stable development trajectory,” he declared.
The Prime Minister stressed that while challenges remain, Armenia today faces “unprecedented opportunities” to strengthen its sovereignty and institutional permanence. He introduced the concept of the “Real Armenia” ideology, describing it as “born in the consciousness of the people” and now yielding tangible results such as democratic consolidation, economic growth, the rule of law, and a stronger fight against corruption.
Pashinyan underlined the significance of Armenia’s balanced foreign policy, noting that it has enhanced the country’s international standing. As evidence, he cited two major international events scheduled for 2026: the European Political Community meeting and the COP 17 biodiversity summit. “Armenia is a reliable partner both in the north and in the south, in the east and in the west,” he said.
Turning to domestic politics, Pashinyan referred to the ruling Civil Contract party’s 2021 electoral mandate and introduced a new interpretation of its campaign slogan. “There is a future, there is a future,” he recalled, adding, “Today, 11 months before the next parliamentary elections, I can announce that this slogan is being implemented. The future is today.”
In the concluding section of the press conference, Pashinyan presented key economic figures to demonstrate progress under his administration. From 2018 to 2025, Armenia invested more than $2.5 billion in regional development projects—an unprecedented level of public spending. In Yerevan alone, programs worth 256 billion drams were implemented, while subsidies to communities nearly doubled from 48 billion to 90 billion drams.
Highlighting increased fiscal revenues, he stated: “In the first half of 2017, tax revenues were 550 billion drams; in the first half of 2025, they reached 1 trillion 356 billion drams—an increase of 146%.” Employment has risen by 44%, and the average salary has grown by 74%, adjusted for inflation to reflect a real increase of 50%. The mechanism for confiscating illicit property has returned $536 million worth of assets to the state and communities.
Pashinyan concluded by reaffirming his government’s commitment to transparency, sustainable development, and economic modernization, positioning Armenia as a country that has moved from political revolution toward institutional and economic transformation.
