
Powerful Explosion at Makhachkala Gas Station Kills 35, Injures 80

Thirty-five people were killed in a powerful explosion at a gas station in Makhachkala, Dagestan. According to the information, three of the dead are children. The Ministry of Health of Russia reported that 80 people were injured to various degrees, and 63 of them were hospitalized.
Mourning was announced in memory of the victims of the explosion in Dagestan. A state of emergency has been declared in the Kumtorkala district of Dagestan.
The explosion occurred at the gas station north of Makhachkala on the evening of August 14. The car service building was first burnt, and then the fire spread to the neighboring gas station. Two of the eight fuel tanks in the gas station exploded. The fire was extinguished only after four hours. A criminal case has been opened in connection with the incident. Authorities said that EUR 9 thousand in compensation will be paid to the families of those killed in the explosion.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry stated, "We are deeply saddened by the loss of life and many injuries caused by an explosion at the gas station in Makhachkala, Dagestan. We express our most heartfelt sympathy and deepest condolences to families and friends who have lost their loved ones in this devastating tragedy."
