
Protests in Support of Saakashvili Spread Globally

On January 4, protesters held rallies under the hashtag #SaveMisha [Mikheil Saakashvili], demanding his medical care transfer overseas. Support demonstrations were conducted at Rike, next to the Bridge of Peace, and at the Government Administration in Tbilisi.
At the Zugdidi demonstration, Nika Melia, the leader of the opposition United National Movement party, said, "We are all choosing between the Soviet past and the European future, whether via our acts or inaction. We are choosing between death and life."
Parallel demonstrations were organized in support of Mikheil Saakashvili in the United States, Germany, Austria, Ukraine, Moldova, Belgium, Poland, Greece, Israel, and other nations. Moreover, protesters gathered near Georgia's diplomatic missions, demanding that the former leader be moved overseas for medical treatment.
Earlier, in his daily address to the Ukrainian people on December 19, Caucasus Watch reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy mentioned the imprisoned former Georgian president and Ukrainian citizen Mikheil Saakashvili's health in his speech. He urged the Georgian government to transfer him to one of the clinics in Ukraine, another European country, or America.
