Azerbaijan Urges Its Citizens Not to Travel to Iran
On January 31, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan advised the citizens of Azerbaijan not to go to Iran.
In the travel warning issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it is stated that taking into account the unstable situation in Iran and the terrorist act committed against the diplomatic mission of Azerbaijan, citizens of Azerbaijan are advised not to travel to Iran unless it is necessary, and those who do travel are advised to exercise extreme caution.
"On January 27, around 8:30 am Baku time, there was an armed terrorist attack against the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Iran. As a result of the terrorist act, the head of the embassy's security service, Orkhan Asgarov, was martyred, and two people were injured," the warning stated.
The Ministry also advised Azerbaijani citizens currently in Iran to observe safety and security regulations. "Our citizens in Iran are requested to contact the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Tabriz for consular and other applications," the warning added.
Azerbaijan Carries Out Special Operation to Neutralize Iranian Intelligence Network
On January 31, Azerbaijan's Ministry of Internal Affairs carried out a special operation to neutralize the "Iranian intelligence network." Law enforcement officers carried out operational measures at the Salam News news agency and the InterAz TV channel.
As a result of a special operation, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Baku and other regions of the republic detained seven people as suspects: A.T. Kerimova, E.A. Ragimova, I.A. Alekperova, M.N. Jafarova, G.H. Jabbarli, F.S. Abdulov, and A.A. Dzhumshudov.
Other details of the special operation carried out are not given.
