
Regional Debt Soars: Ingushetia, Chechnya, Dagestan Among Top Debtors

According to data from the Bank of Russia, the top ten regions in Russia with the highest credit debts include Ingushetia, Chechnya, Dagestan, Russian-occupied Crimea and Sevastopol, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, Ivanovo, Tambov, and Bryansk regions.
Conversely, regions with the least amount of outstanding loans include the Yamalo-Nenets, Chukotka, and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Districts, along with the Magadan region, Yakutia, Tyumen and Sakhalin regions, Kamchatka Krai, St. Petersburg, and Tyva.
The analysis revealed a growing debt trend in Russia, with a 23.4% increase from January 2023 to January 2024. The total debt in the country rose from 26,847,637 million rubles to 33,140,925 million rubles during this period. The ranking of regions is based on the amount of debt relative to the population in each subject of the Russian Federation. Notably, with 4,021,461 million rubles, Moscow leads in the amount of debt, followed by the Moscow region, St. Petersburg, the Tyumen region, and the Krasnodar region.
Conversely, regions with the smallest debt include the Nenets Autonomous District, Ingushetia, Chukotka Autonomous District, Jewish Autonomous Region, and Altai Federal Republic.
