Russian FM Endorses 3+3 Platform as Alternative to Western Mediation in South Caucasus

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed concern over what he described as the “destructive activities” of Western states across the Eurasian continent, particularly in the South Caucasus. Lavrov contends that Western powers are actively inserting themselves into regional affairs, disrupting established processes aimed at regional stability and security.
In a recent statement, Lavrov highlighted: “In the South Caucasus, it persistently imposes its services on the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations.”
Lavrov argued that the responsibility for addressing conflicts within Eurasia lies primarily with the region’s own players, who have developed frameworks to manage such disputes. He pointed to the 3+3 platform as a successful example of regional cooperation.
“I believe that the experience gained in all these formats should be actively used to harmonize existing initiatives, including in the context of the formation of the Eurasian security architecture,” the Russian FM noted.
