Russian Intelligence Accuses OSCE of Bias Ahead of Georgian Parliamentary Elections

On October 3, during a briefing in Baku, Sergey Naryshkin, the head of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), claimed that his agency had obtained information indicating that the OSCE/ODIHR had prepared an interim report on Georgia's upcoming parliamentary elections at the behest of the U.S. State Department.
Naryshkin alleged that the report, which concerns the elections scheduled for October 26, falsely stated that conditions in Georgia were unsuitable for holding fair and transparent elections. "This, of course, is not true. The goal of this action is a blatant interference in Georgia's internal affairs, aimed at preventing healthy, nationally oriented forces from coming to power," Naryshkin remarked.
He further criticized Western nations for their continued interference in the internal politics of South Caucasus countries. Naryshkin also accused the OSCE of attempting to undermine Azerbaijan's recent parliamentary elections, insisting that the results reflected the true aspirations of the Azerbaijani people. "Regrettably, this is just another sign of the gradual degradation of the OSCE, which is increasingly serving the political interests of a few countries within the so-called 'golden billion,'" he added.
