
Russian Power Company Reveals Illegal Activities of Cryptocurrency Mining Farms in Dagestan

"Rosseti North Caucasus" [Russian power company] in 2022 and the first half of 2023, together with law enforcement agencies, revealed the illegal activities of 36 cryptocurrency mining farms in Dagestan, the company's Press Service reported.
It is noted that the total damage is estimated at EUR 1.5 million. The volume of stolen electricity amounted to almost 34 million kWh. "One of the largest facilities was found in Kaspiysk. The capacity of the illegal mining farm was about 1 MW, which is comparable to the power supply of a residential complex for 300 apartments," the report added.
Similar cases were also detected in several other settlements, including Makhachkala. For each case, the specialists of the energy company drew up acts on contractual and unaccounted consumption. Together with the relevant statements, they were sent to law enforcement authorities for further action under applicable law.
Notably, PJSC Russian Grids North Caucasus provides electric power transmission via 0.4 kV to 110 kV grids, as well as the technological connection of consumers to the grid infrastructure in the North Caucasus Federal District. According to the list of affiliated entities as of June 30, 2023, PJSC ROSSETI holds 96.47% of the company's shares.
