On February 27, the separatist authorities of South Ossetia and Nicaragua signed a so-called agreement on the "mutual elimination of visa formalities for holders of diplomatic, official, service, and foreign passports" during a meeting in Moscow, Russia.
During the talks, Akhsar Dzhioev, the de-facto foreign minister of South Ossetia, and Alba Azucena Torres Mejía, Nicaragua’s de-facto ambassador to the occupied region, signed the document.
A statement from Tskhinvali’s "foreign ministry" noted that the parties discussed bilateral relations, explored possibilities for strengthening and developing cooperation, and addressed issues on the current international agenda.
