Serbia Explores Partnership with Azerbaijan for Electricity Exports to Europe

During an interview published on July 1, Serbian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Dragan Vladisavljević stated that Serbia is considering cooperation with Azerbaijan within the Black Sea Energy project to export Azerbaijani electricity to Europe. "Our country is considering the possibility of cooperation within the framework of the so-called green corridor project that Azerbaijan has initiated with Georgia, Romania, and Hungary," he said.
Vladisavljević also discussed gas cooperation with Azerbaijan, noting that the two countries' state companies, SOCAR and Srbijagas, signed an agreement to import 400 million cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas annually to Serbia. This volume could potentially increase to 1 billion cubic meters per year, constituting one-third of Serbia's total consumption.
"However, our current legal framework in this area provides for other forms of energy partnership, such as studying the prospects of cooperation in the field of LNG, SOCAR's participation in the construction of a gas power plant in Serbia, as well as the possibility of attracting Azerbaijani investments in the construction of new gas storage infrastructure in Serbia," Vladisavljević emphasized.
Notably, on December 17, 2022, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania, and Hungary signed a strategic partnership agreement in Bucharest to construct an undersea electric cable with a capacity of 1 GW and a length of 1,195 kilometers.
