Turkey Builds New Military Base on Border with Armenia

Turkey is constructing a new military base on Mount Agri (Ararat), located on the border with Armenia. This new base is set to be located at an altitude of 2100 meters above sea level and is being built with the intention of combating terrorism.
The governor of Agri province, Osman Varol, has announced that the base will be constructed using special modular blocks, which will provide all the necessary conditions for the personnel stationed there. He also added that the base will be equipped with all kinds of modern technology. General Hüsamettin Eröl and other officials visited the construction site and noted that this region has a strategic importance for Turkey.
Varol emphasized that the deployment of security forces in this particular area is of great importance. This has caused some concern in Armenia, as their media has labelled the Turkish activities as “a threat to national security”. The new base is intended to be a major factor in the war against the PKK. It is believed that it will help to control the mountain route used by the PKK to travel from Iran to Turkey.
