On April 2, two officials from a major power supply company in North Ossetia were detained for illegally mining cryptocurrencies.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Alania, the suspects, in collusion with unidentified individuals, illegally connected 183 mining devices to the power grid between May 2024 and March 2025. This allowed them to mine cryptocurrency using electricity that was either unpaid or significantly underpriced.

The Investigative Committee of the Investigative Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of RSO-Alania has opened a criminal case under paragraphs "d" and "e" of Article 286 of the Russian Criminal Code ("Exceeding Official Powers"). Authorities are conducting investigative measures to identify all individuals involved in the scheme and to determine the financial damage. The investigation is also assessing the amount of illegally consumed electricity and the volume of mined cryptocurrency.
