US Rejects Russia's Claims Regarding Its Role in South Caucasus

The United States has denied Russia's characterization of its role in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. On February 10th, Vedant Patel, the official representative of the US State Department, stated that helping to promote peace in the South Caucasus is a constant priority for the Biden administration. He noted that Secretary of State Blinken has had direct relations and interactions with leaders of both countries which shows this commitment.
Patel also acknowledged that Russia's aggression and unilateralism have impeded several efforts to work through the Minsk Group. He emphasized that the United States remains firmly committed to participating in all avenues of peace promotion, either through a bilateral format or through mechanisms within the European Union and OSCE.
Earlier, Maria Zakharova, Russian Foreign Ministry Press Secretary, had accused Washington and Brussels of trying to break tripartite agreements between Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia as well as attempting to change security systems in the region.
