Saakashvili Discharged from Vivamedi Clinic

| News, Politics, Georgia

On November 12, the Special Penitentiary Service of Georgia announced that Mikheil Saakashvili, the convicted former President of Georgia, had been discharged from the Vivamedi Clinic and transferred back to the N12 Penitentiary Institution to continue serving his sentence.

In its statement, the Service recalled that Saakashvili had been moved to the Vivamedi Clinic on May 12, 2022, where he had remained under medical supervision and received the necessary treatment. The Service emphasized that, under Georgian law, the decision to return a prisoner from a civilian medical facility to a penitentiary institution is made based on a doctor’s assessment. "As the public knows, the convict Mikheil Saakashvili, on May 12, 2022, was transferred to the Vivamedi Clinic, where he was present and provided the appropriate medical services," the statement read. It added that since Saakashvili’s health condition was now considered satisfactory and he no longer required inpatient care, he had been discharged from the clinic and returned to the penitentiary facility to continue serving his sentence "as a general rule".
