On August 13, Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan, received Dirk Lölke, the newly appointed German Ambassador to Azerbaijan, who presented his credentials during the meeting. Recalling his official visit to Germany the previous month, Aliyev stated that he had held productive discussions with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Friedrich Merz on bilateral relations and international developments. He emphasized that Azerbaijan and Germany share similar positions on regional stability, security, and development.

According to Aliyev, the visit also helped identify new areas for cooperation and contributed to strengthening mutual understanding between the two countries. He particularly highlighted the "Joint Declaration on a Strategic Agenda for Bilateral Partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Federal Republic of Germany," signed in Berlin, stating that the document had elevated bilateral relations to a qualitatively higher level. The president noted that Azerbaijan and Germany are currently engaged in strategic cooperation across a range of fields, while expanding opportunities in trade, investment, and business are providing additional momentum to bilateral ties. He also attached importance to Lölke beginning his diplomatic mission shortly after his own visit to Germany, expressing hope that this would contribute to further development of relations. Aliyev wished the ambassador success in his diplomatic activities.

Lölke thanked Aliyev for the reception and congratulated him on the first anniversary of the Azerbaijan-Armenia summit held in Washington on August 8 of the previous year. In response, Aliyev emphasized that Azerbaijan had initiated the regional peace agenda and would continue working to advance it. He stated that peace in the region had become irreversible. The German ambassador noted that the German government was highly satisfied with the outcome of Aliyev’s visit to Germany and expressed hope that the agreements and issues discussed during the trip would be implemented promptly.

The sides also exchanged views on Azerbaijan-European Union relations, noting the positive momentum observed in their recent development. They discussed the East-West Transport Corridor and the potential for German companies to benefit from opportunities provided by the route. Energy cooperation was another topic of discussion, with the sides considering prospects in both traditional and renewable energy. They also addressed opportunities for expanding cooperation in the field of education.
