In addition, Aliyev met with Tony Blair, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, in Sharm El-Sheikh, with Viktor Orbán, the Prime Minister of Hungary, joining the discussions later. Trump's Remarks about Armenia and Azerbaijan
Speaking before the Israeli Parliament (the Knesset) on October 13, President Trump again referred to the peace settlement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He emphasized the US commitment to fostering "a future and legacy for the next generation based on cooperation, friendship, and trade relations". Trump stated, "From Tel Aviv to Dubai, from Haifa to Beirut, from Jerusalem to Damascus… and from Armenia to Azerbaijan — another war that I stopped".
During the Gaza Peace Summit in Egypt on the same day, US President Donald Trump referred to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan as a "compatriot" of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during a public appearance. Trump turned toward Aliyev, who was seated behind him, and asked, "Where is your compatriot?". Aliyev then pointed toward Pashinyan. Trump continued, "You guys still get along? They fought for 32 years, and we settled it in an hour. They like each other," referring to the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Trump once more highlighted the peace achieved between Armenia and Azerbaijan, describing it as "a small war that we stopped". He recalled their meeting in Washington, saying, "When I met them, it was in the Oval Office. They fought for about 31 years, some crazy number, and one of them sat on one side of the Oval Office, the other on the other side. But when we finished, they hugged each other, and now they’re friends, and they get along great. Look at that. I want to thank you both, it’s incredible," Trump stated.
During the ceremony in Sharm El-Sheikh, Donald Trump praised Ilham Aliyev calling him "a very strong leader" and emphasizing that he was "doing a very good job". Trump added, "I solved the war for this person, for Azerbaijan. You still get along with each other, right? We fought for 32 years, but we solved the issue in about an hour, right? And now they like each other. Thank you all for being here. He is a very strong leader, he is doing a very good job. We will make a speech after this ceremony, but this is a very important signing".
