Azerbaijan and China Bolster Transportation and Economic Ties

On April 29, Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, welcomed Yang Wanming, the President of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, in a meeting that underscored the strong political ties between Azerbaijan and China. 

President Aliyev highlighted the notable advances in bilateral relations, particularly praising the active cooperation in the transportation sector and the role of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor as a vital part of the Middle Corridor. He also commended the increasing Chinese investments in Azerbaijan and discussed ongoing consultations concerning Azerbaijan's potential hosting of COP29. President Aliyev expressed confidence that Yang Wanming's visit would further enhance the broad humanitarian agenda and bilateral cooperation.

Highlighting the evolution of Azerbaijan-China relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties, Yang Wanming pointed to President Ilham Aliyev’s visits to China, his meetings with President Xi Jinping, and their excellent personal relationship as pivotal to strengthening bilateral bonds. He described Azerbaijan as a crucial partner for China, particularly noting Azerbaijan's early support for the “Belt and Road" initiative and its importance in developing the entire transportation hub of Azerbaijan.

Yang Wanming affirmed China's respect for Azerbaijan's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity and expressed confidence in the enduring mutual trust between the two nations. He acknowledged China's support for Azerbaijan in organizing COP29.

Additionally, Yang Wanming touched upon the connections within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), noting the importance of Azerbaijan's status as a dialogue partner in the organization.

In response, President Aliyev reiterated the strong impact of his meetings with the President of China on bilateral relations. President Aliyev is committed to furthering Azerbaijan-China relations across various sectors and continuing his father's policy. Aliyev emphasized Azerbaijan's full support for the “Belt and Road” initiative and its commitment to realizing this project through comprehensive transportation infrastructure and regional cooperation.
