On March 10, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov announced that Azerbaijan, Georgia, Hungary, and Romania had sent a letter to EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson, requesting Project of Mutual Interest (PMI) status for the "Black Sea Energy" project, an initiative to lay an underwater electricity cable across the Black Sea.

Shahbazov noted that the recent ministerial and steering committee meeting on the green energy corridor between the four countries produced significant outcomes. The joint letter to the EU commissioner aimed to secure PMI status and integrate the project into the EU’s Ten-Year Network Development Plan (TYNDP).

Additionally, steps were taken to include Bulgaria in the initiative and incorporate a fiber-optic cable into the project.

During the meeting, a document was signed transferring authority and responsibility for the project’s techno-economic justification to the joint venture GECO Power Company.
