BP Caspian Region Official Confirms New Joint Projects with Azerbaijan

| News, Economy, Azerbaijan

On November 14, BP Vice President for the Caspian Region Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli stated that BP is currently holding talks with the Azerbaijani government, the Ministry of Energy, SOCAR, and other state institutions on new joint projects.

Aslanbayli highlighted BP’s long-standing partnership, citing the extraction of 4.5 billion barrels of oil from the Azeri–Chirag–Gunashli (ACG) oil block and 257 billion cubic meters of gas from the Shah Deniz gas field. Alongside its oil and gas activities, BP is increasingly focused on supporting Azerbaijan’s energy transition. Aslanbayli pointed to the 240 MW Shafag solar power plant in Jabrayil as a flagship renewable project. He stressed that this model—using hydrocarbon revenues to fund renewable energy—could be replicated in future initiatives. Aslanbayli confirmed that BP’s long-term strategy is fully aligned with Azerbaijan’s decarbonization goals. He also referred to the ongoing $2.9 billion Shah Deniz compressor station project, which will sustain maximum gas output and secure additional supplies for international markets.
