Cargo Transportation Between Azerbaijan and Iran Doubles

Emil Ahmedov, the head of the Cargo Transportation Department of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, stated that the recent events between Azerbaijan and Iran did not affect the cargo transportation between the two countries; on the contrary, the volume of cargo transportation doubled.
Emil Ahmedov explained this by the presence of sufficient demand. "Accordingly, the number of workers performing loading and unloading operations has been increased, resulting in a twofold increase. The growth of traffic is observed both along the route Azerbaijan-Iran, and [within the international transport corridor] North-South," Ahmedov said.
According to him, infrastructure work continues in the direction of increasing the number of existing platforms and the volume of cargo turnover.
As previously reported by Caucasus Watch, on April 7 and 8, a telephone conversation took place between Jeyhun Bayramov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, and Huseyn Amir Abdollahian, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The parties mutually agreed to respect both countries' territorial integrity and sovereignty. During the telephone conversation, a detailed discussion was held regarding the existing dissatisfaction and misunderstandings between the two countries.
