
Former Dagestan Sports Minister Magomedov Charged with Terrorism and Murder

On August 12, the Basmanny Court of Moscow extended the arrest of Magomed Magomedov, the former Mayor of Kizilyurt and former Head of the Ministry of Sports of Dagestan, until October 3. Magomedov, who had previously been arrested in an embezzlement case, now faces additional charges of promoting terrorism and murder.
He has been charged under part 2 of article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation for promoting terrorist activities using his official position, part 2 of article 105 for the murder of two or more persons by a generally dangerous method by a group of persons, and part 4 of article 160 for embezzlement on a large scale.
Khalitbeg Makhachev, the former Head of the Department of Physical Culture, Sports, and Reserve Training of the Ministry of Sport of Dagestan, is also on trial but only faces embezzlement charges. Both Magomedov and Makhachev were detained in October 2023 on embezzlement charges.
