Former Ingushetian Mayor Detained in Grozny Over Corruption Charges

On September 3, the Interior Ministry announced that the former Mayor of Magas, the capital town of Ingushetia, who was on the federal wanted list for corruption, had been detained in Grozny.
Ingushetian police officers apprehended the ex-mayor for abuse of power. From January 10 to February 6, 2023, while overseeing the repair and replacement of external power supply networks in Magas, the official approved inflated local estimates during the contract's conclusion, causing a budget loss of 1.99 million rubles [EUR 20 thousand]. Following this, the mayor resigned at his own request and fled Ingushetia.
Later, the Ministry of Internal Affairs employees uncovered the abuse of power, initiated a criminal case, and placed the former mayor on the federal wanted list. During the investigation of the corruption offense, the defendant was detained as a preventive measure.
