France Halts Aid to Georgia Amid EU Accession Stalemate

During a reception on Bastille Day, French Ambassador to Georgia Sheraz Gasri announced that France is suspending direct aid to the Georgian budget.
"The European Council has concluded that the path to Georgia's accession to the European Union is de facto suspended. This is the result of decisions taken by the Georgian government, which everyone knows about. For this reason, we have decided to temporarily suspend our direct assistance to the Georgian budget and to increase our assistance to civil society and media," the ambassador added.
Ambassador Gasri emphasized that the Georgian government must change course to resume support in all areas. She did not specify the exact amount of French aid that was being suspended.
