Georgia To Sign Free Trade Agreement with South Korea

| News, Economy, Georgia

In an interview with the South Korean publication The Korea Herald, Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Georgian Parliament, announced the upcoming signing of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the two countries. Samkharadze confirmed that an agreement on the Georgia-Korea CEPA has been reached and legal teams are currently finalizing the text for signing this year.

He also emphasized Georgia’s strategic role within the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor, noting that it serves as the primary link between East and West. “Our goal is to transform this corridor into not only the shortest but also the most convenient route between Europe and Asia. Georgia is a vital nexus, and it is in the interest of Korean companies to leverage Georgia’s transit potential for exports to Europe,” Samkharadze stated.

He added that a robust Korean presence in Georgia would make it significantly easier for companies to re-enter Ukraine, Russia, and neighboring markets, highlighting Georgia's favorable investment climate, ease of doing business, and low tax burden. “The opening of a full Korean Embassy in Tbilisi, along with a Trade Promotion Agency, demonstrates Korea's commitment. We would also welcome the opening of a KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency) office in Tbilisi,” he noted.
