Georgian Dream Chair: "Salome Zourabichvili Switched to Narrative of Radical Opposition"

On May 14, Irakli Kobakhidze, the chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream party, commented on the statement of the Administration of the President, according to which Salome Zourabichvili will veto the draft law related to the Central Election Commission if passed.
He said that President Salome Zourabichvili has entirely switched to the narrative of the radical opposition. According to Irakli Kobakhidze, if the President vetoes the amendments, the majority will override it. "Unfortunately, Salome Zourabichvili has entirely switched to the narrative of the radical opposition. Therefore, we are not surprised by her statement. If she vetoes the amendment, we will override the veto," Kobakhidze added.
"The rule was absolutely irrational and unprecedented. You cannot tell me any country in the world where a similar rule is applied. There is simply no such country. This rule was established in accordance with the so-called April 19 agreement; it was a demand of the opposition and non-governmental organizations. I will repeat once again, this was an irrational, unprecedented rule that we included in the election code based on the April 19 agreement. However, as you know, the April 19 agreement has been annulled. Therefore, we have no obligation to leave irrational regulations in the election code. Accordingly, a rational, correct regulation will be established, which will be fully compliant with international standards. This is the only purpose of this change," Kobakhidze concluded.
