Georgian Public Defender on Saakashvili's Health

On 30 March, Georgian Public Defender Levan Ioseliani said that the medical council set up by the Ombudsman would visit Mikheil Saakashvili in the coming days. He added that the medical council would decide when and how often to meet with Saakashvili, so he could not interfere with this process.
"There is no opposition to the process from my side, and it cannot be for the simple reason that the Medical Council itself decides how often and when it will enter the prison. From my side, the formal part related to the documents has been done long ago and the credentials have been signed. As for when they will enter, according to my information, the visit has already been scheduled. They don't want to make this information public, so I won't talk about it either, but this visit will take place soon," the Public Defender stressed.
"As for the Polish doctors, this issue is not within the mandate of the Public Defender, it is up to the government to decide. Government representatives have also made a statement on this, and I believe that any doctor who is interested in his condition, whether Polish or not, should be allowed to visit him," Ioseliani stressed.
