Head of Dagestan Defends Mobile Internet Restrictions as a Security Measure

| News, Economy, Security, North Caucasus

On August 11, Sergey Melikov, the Head of Dagestan, addressed the ongoing mobile internet interruptions in the region, defending them as a necessary security precaution. He acknowledged the public's frustration but stressed the importance of the measures.

"Dear Dagestanis! Like you, I face restrictions on mobile Internet every day and understand how much this complicates life," Melikov stated. "Believe me, these measures are not a whim, but a necessity. I am sure you will support me; it is better to endure these inconveniences than to risk the life of even one of our fellow countrymen". He explained that the primary goal is to prevent potential terrorist attacks and protect critical infrastructure, claiming that enemies are using the mobile internet to control drones for hostile purposes.
