Investigation Reveals Formation of Terrorist Community in Dagestan

The Investigative Committee of Russia in Dagestan reported that three residents of Dagestan are facing charges related to the creation of a terrorist community and illegal armed formation. The suspects, aged 31, 29, and 27, have been detained and placed in custody.
According to the investigation, between 2021 and 2022, while serving sentences in penal colony-2 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Republic of Dagestan, the individuals formed a stable group to carry out terrorist activities. They allegedly created a terrorist community and illegal armed formation, designating one of them as the leader. Additionally, they acquired at least four grenades and materials for manufacturing explosives from unidentified sources.
"In late May 2023, one of the participants encouraged an acquaintance to join the terrorist community, aiming to recruit new members for carrying out attacks on law enforcement officers," the Investigative Committee stated.
The investigation has led to the opening of a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 205.4 (creation and leadership of a terrorist community), Part 1 of Article 208 (creation and leadership of an illegal armed formation), and Part 1.1 of Article 205 (inducement, recruitment, or involvement of a person in a terrorist community) of the Criminal Code.
