Mikayil Jabbarov Announces Cooperation with ExxonMobil to Discover Major Oil Field
During a special Cabinet of Ministers session dedicated to President Ilham Aliyev's visit to the United States on August 26, Mikayil Jabbarov, the Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan, announced that the country was seeking to discover a major unconventional oil field with the support of the American company ExxonMobil.
Jabbarov stated that the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and ExxonMobil would positively impact the development of energy sector cooperation. He emphasized that Azerbaijan's role in regional and global energy security was particularly underscored during meetings in Washington. "Today, Azerbaijan supplies natural gas to 10 US allies. Overall, Azerbaijani pipeline gas deliveries reach 14 countries. Our country has recently begun supplying gas to Syria. The US welcomed Azerbaijan's participation in oil and gas projects of Washington's allies such as Israel and the United Arab Emirates," Jabbarov noted.
The minister added that Azerbaijan's energy resources, including its renewable energy potential, made the country attractive for investment in data center infrastructure and artificial intelligence technologies. He further emphasized that "Azerbaijan plays an indispensable role in implementing several projects connecting strategically important regions of Central Asia and the South Caucasus."
