Russia Awaits 'Constructive Response' from Azerbaijan Over Sputnik Closure
On February 27, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that Moscow was in contact with Baku regarding the closure of the Rossiya Segodnya media group’s Sputnik branch in Azerbaijan and expected a constructive response.
Zakharova emphasized that Russia hoped Azerbaijan would take into account the "allied nature of relations between Russia and Azerbaijan" and avoid actions that could harm "the multifaceted bilateral ties between our countries and peoples."
While acknowledging Azerbaijan's legal rationale, Zakharova noted, "Yes, indeed, the law is the law—no one disputes that. But it is always possible to find mutually acceptable solutions and a way to resolve the situation."
