Saakashvili's Worsening Health

Giuli Alasania, the mother of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, said on 22 April that her son had lost consciousness twice in front of her. Alasania spoke to journalists about the incident. "He fainted twice today, the attendants came in, they managed to pick up a man of this size, we put him down. After that it happened again, I was standing there, the nurse was on the other side and I managed to hold him down because he was completely exhausted, completely black and for a long time he was so unconscious," said Giuli Alasania. She links Saakashvili's episodes of heart failure to heavy metal poisoning.
The director of Vivamedi, Zurab Chkhaidze, said that Mikheil Saakashvili's general condition was linked to the problem of food rations. He says: "According to him [the patient], he lost consciousness during the day, the doctor on duty was called immediately. At that time the patient was conscious, his physiological parameters and blood pressure indicators were within the normal range," Chkhaidze said.
Since 12 May, Mikheil Saakashvili has been receiving treatment at the Vivamedi clinic in Tbilisi. Family members, lawyers, his political supporters, as well as medical specialists, including foreign experts, say that Mikheil Saakashvili should be immediately transferred abroad for treatment to save his life. The Tbilisi City Court has not complied with this request. Saakashvili's lawyers then appealed to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.
On the first day of his arrest, Mikheil Saakashvili announced a hunger strike, which he called off after being transferred to the Gori clinic. According to his relatives and lawyers, he could not be properly rehabilitated there.
The third president of Georgia has been in prison since 1 October 2021. The court sentenced him to prison for organising the beating of MP Valery Gelashvili and for pardoning those convicted in the case of Sandro Girgvliani's death. Three other cases have been opened against Mikheil Saakashvili.
