
South Caucasus in the Global Firepower Index

The Global Firepower, an online source which conducts searches on military strength, published their military strength index for the year 2019. The army of Azerbaijan moved a rank up in comparison to the previous year, positioning themselves on the 52nd position. The army of Georgia occupies the 85th position, while the Armenian army dropped by 12 positions, taking the 96th place. When it comes to certain sectors of the military, in the field of aircraft strength, Azerbaijan occupies the 63rd, Georgia the 84th and Armenia the 86th position. When it comes to tanks, Azerbaijan is on the 32nd, Georgia the 74th and Armenia the 78th place. In regards to naval forces, Azerbaijan is on the 57th and Georgia on the 96th place. When it comes to other regional powers, Russia is ranked second, Turkey ninth and Iran fourteenth on the list, which is topped by the USA.
The Global Firepower Index is published every year, by collecting the publicly available sources of each country in regards to their military. It utilizes over 55 individual factors such as manpower, naval power, air power, geography, logistics, petroleum resources, financials etc. in order to determine the countries power ranking. This year 139 countries were analyzed, with Moldova being the newest addition.
