
US Sanctions Azerbaijani Internal Ministry Official

According to the information released by the US State Department, it has published a list of individuals subject to sanctions on the occasion of International Anti-Corruption and Human Rights Days.
Police colonel Karim Alimardanov, the head of the Department of the Main Department of Combating Organized Crime of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Internal Affairs, is on the list.
Under Section 7031(c) of the sanctions resolution, the State Department sanctioned police colonel Alimardanov in 2015 and 2016 for his involvement in gross human rights violations, namely the torture of detainees. According to the country's immigration and citizenship act, all assets of sanctioned individuals or entities located in the United States or the possession or control of US persons are blocked.
Notably, Alimardanov was awarded the "For Bravery" medal by order of the President of Azerbaijan in 2015.
